Saint-Étienne-du-Mont
5e arrondissement
Nombreuses peintures. Châsse de sainte Geneviève, patronne de Paris. Autel des ateliers Chéret (1989).
Though begun in 1492, this church was consecrated only in 1626. It combines the Flamboyant and Renaissance styles. It has the only carved stone rood-screen in Paris (early 17th c.). The pulpit, sculpted by G. Pilon in 1651, is remarkable, as is the organ case by J. Buron (1631). In the church and the gallery of the cloister, there is the most beautiful collection of 16th and 17th c. Parisian stained glass, second only to the Sainte-Chapelle. Many paintings. The shrine of Saint Genevieve, Paris’s patron Saint. Altar by « Cheret Ateliers » (1989).
